Round 1 - Fulbeck 26th AprilReport and photos by Rob Willshire For the first round the turnout was not bad. We had 9 karts on the 125 grid of which 2 had registered for the Challenge. However this was the first round and we had several drivers with commitments that were planned last year. Weddings etc. One driver who had practiced all day on Saturday had to withdraw due to a lack of spares. If heat one was anything to go by the racing was going to be close for the rest of the day. Novice Fancios Kishtoo showed promise by starting at the back and fighting up to 3rd. Mark Culey took the win with James Gosterow in 2nd. Robert Douglas from the challenge drivers set fastest lap (41.03) and finished in 4th. Challenge driver Simon Rushforth failed to start due to a problem which turned out to be a broken read petal. Curly leads Gosterwo and Snell at the Start of heat 1 Heat 2 saw challenge driver Robert Douglas make a good start and by the end of the race had lapped the back markers and finished 11.11 seconds in front of Michael Hartland. Heat 1 winner Mark Culey taking 3rd. Heat 3 was a battle between Culey, Kishtoo and Douglas. Culey leading the pack home with Kishtoo and Douglas only 0.16 seconds apart with Mary Howarth in 4th. Simon Rushforth had managed to fix his problem and finished his first race in a 125. Kishtoo leading Hartland With Culey on pole and Douglas on 2 we were in for an battle royal for the 12 lap final. Howarth split the pack as she stalled on the start. Jamie Gosterow made a blinding start from 5th. Robert Douglas made his break and settled in to a rhythm and by the flag has pulled out a 5.09 second lead. The fight behind was down to the wire. Gosterow came home in 2nd followed by Culey, Kishtoo, Hartland, Snell and Rushforth. Having received outside assistance Mary was called as a non starter. Robert Douglas set fasted lap again has he had done in every heat. His fastest lap was in heat 2 with a 40.09. Challenge drivers Douglas and Rushforth. At the end of the day they all had Fun. The next round is at Rissington on the 6/7 of June. Come and have some fun. |
